Balbhavan is not only an institution, it is a vision. This vision took shape in 1956. The foundation stone of Balbhavan was laid by Late Indira Gandhi in the presence of the first Prime Minister of India, Shri Jawaharlal Nehru. Pandit Nehruji always took a keen interest in the development of the activities of Balbhavan and had visited it thrice. He also gifted a baby train for children. Balbhavan was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Shri Morarjibhai Desai in 1957
